Accessibility: This venue is currently not ADA accessible. This is a mask required event. We ask that all attendees respect our mask policy to ensure safety for high-risk community members. We keep us safe.

Portland For Palestine is a comedy show and market fundraiser, a boycott effort, and a call to action!

We believe artists have the responsibility to build artistic spaces that aren’t merely distractions from our world, rather, are responsive to our global community in alignment with our collective liberation. We divest from the zioni$t networks that are prevalent in the comedy scene here, and resist by creating our own spaces.

    Who we are supporting:

All funds raised from ticket sales will support our dear friend Mohammed and his family. Mohammed and his siblings were all in the process of achieving higher education when the terrors of colonization and imperialism turned their world upside down. As we know, there are no universities left in Gaza. So this fundraiser will support Mohammed and his family to survive the life in Gaza, rebuild and hopefully resume their education. Our people need us, and this is our small effort in showing up for them.

All funds raised from the raffle will support local SWANA community members facing political imprisonment, legal action and suppression.

We are also collecting physical donations on behalf of the PDX Community Free Store to support our unhoused neighbors. In order to win a special raffle prize we request that attendees bring one of the many items on a needs list. PDX Community Free Store is a group that organizes distribution of harm reduction supplies, hygiene supplies, outside gear, clothing, beauty products, art and education materials and books twice a week for unhoused Portlanders. They also provide on-site hair cuts, massages, medical support and bike repair.

Read More About Mohammed & his family story here: https://gofund.me/34e7ad99

Learn more about PDX Community Free Store: https://www.instagram.com/communityfreestorepdx/

    What to expect:

We will have five comedians who we believe aren’t just Portland’s funniest, but also radical individuals who care about community care and collective Liberation. Prior to the comedy show we will have local vendors selling art + food, and a cute raffle to maximize fundraising potential. The market portion of the event will run from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and the comedy show will take place directly after. The event will likely come to a close around 10pm. There will be food vendors that you may purchase food from. We will have water available for free.

Note: Please reach out to the organizer if you have any accessibility needs for the event! We will do our absolute best to accommodate you, and if we are unable to accommodate you may request a refund.

Grab your friends and family, and head over to Bridgespace for an evening filled with laughter, community, and a chance to support families in Gaza and our local community.

    Free Palestine!

Anjali and The Incredible Kid first introduced Portland dance floors to the sounds of Bollywood and Bhangra in 2000, but it was not until July of 2002 that they founded a party dedicated exclusively to featuring the sounds of the desi diaspora. ANDAZ was an instant success and many thought the success was a fad. The party started as the Truth Hurts song “Addictive,” featuring a prominent sample of the Bollywood song “Thoda Resham Lagta Hai,” was making its way up the charts to a peak of #9. This was one year before a Jay-Z remix of Panjabi MC’s Bhangra track “Mundian To Bach Ke” reached the US Top 40. This was five years before MIA covered the Bollywood song “Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja,” and made use of South Indian soundtrack percussion players to create the dense rhythms of several of the tracks on her Kala album. This was seven years before Slumdog Millionaire won 8 Academy Awards and grossed $140 million dollars at the North American box office, with a soundtrack by the Bollywood composer A.R Rahman that one two Oscars, reached #4 on the U.S. Billboard 200, and topped the Billboard Top Electronic Albums twice, once knocking Lady Gaga out of the top spot after a twelve-week run. This was eight years before Bollywood movies were released in mainstream theaters throughout the Portland metro area, including such unlikely places as the Century Clackamas Town Center. This was 21 years before Amazon Prime released a four-part documentary on Punjabi singer AP Dhillon. This was 21 years before Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh performed at Coachella, and 22 years before Diljit’s sold-out stadium tour across North America including the largest Punjabi concert ever outside of India, his starring role as Punjabi folk icon Chamkila in a Netflix film, and his appearance on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show. This was 22 years before the Hollywood Theatre began monthly encore screenings of the Tollywood hit RRR.

“Known for fusing heart-quaking electronic with bhangra—a genre with roots in the traditional folk music of the northern Indian state of Punjab—and the soundtracks of Bollywood films, DJ Anjali and the Incredible Kid’s dance floor sites are sweaty, glorious chaos.” Portland Mercury 4/18/2020

“Their long-standing Andaz party has become legendary” Willamette Week 6/5/19

“Andaz, the longest-running bhangra and Bollywood dance party in the world (and one of the wildest opportunities to shake your bum in Portland).” Portland Mercury 7/27/18
